Lano Paints WarmaHordes: Everblight Incubi and Afflictor Light Warbeast

So in the last week, I've managed to paint a few things, mostly, my Razor Boars for my Thornfall Army, and a few units and solos for my Everblight.

Unfortunate I've recently broken the camera on my phone which has just been fixed so no photos of these new additions yet!

What I will grace you with though is the pictures of my other models I've painted over the last few weeks.
First up, is my Incubi

These guys are awesome. A set of solos I try to not leave home without now!
Legion have very high defence in comparison to other armies, so when you finally kill one, these blighters some out (see what I did there?!) and strike you with POW15 combo strike! Great for tar pitting and wonder striking jacks and beasts!

Now to go with these guys, a suitable Warbeast had to be painted, and I have one right here!

The Afflictor! If these light Warbeast kills you, it turns you into an Incubi! Straight out of an Alien movie!

I tend to run this with Bethayne, since she herself carries a lot of infantry and a Sourceress on Helion, the Afflictor has loads of models that he can pawn shots off to with his Sacrificial Pawn Animus.

Lano Paints WarmaHordes: Farrow Minions Lord Carver BMMD EsqIII + Farrow Razorback Crew

So as I said before, I have been immensely caught up in Warmachine and Hordes in which I mainly play Everblight, to many dismay, specially Riot and Heretic from other blogs with whom I regularly play with!

So I decided to invest in a new army.
And the first that came to mind was PIGS!!
The idea of a massive pig with axes pummelling a robot into the ground amuses me greatly! And at the FLGS I saw a great opportunity to proxy a Razorback Artillery crew.
So as I play a game, I imagine miniatures to pause, think, and exclaim...

"Is that a flying pig.....!?"

Excuse any rubbish in the background, I'm living with a mate and my house is as messy as you'd expect 2 make students to be!

Anyway, coming in with a POW15 hit, anything this pig lands on WILL take a sizable chink of damage! All I have to do is hit with the damn thing first!

Along with this I have made personalised flags to act as my "Grunt" for the unit, with everyone's name on one. And every time I get a Warbeast or Warjack kill il mark a point

^_^

Lastly, I took the time out the same night to paint my Warlock for my new army,
Lord Carver BMMD EsqIII (for those of you who don't know, that's Bringer of Most Massive Destruction Esquire the Third).

A Pig with a shotgun and a huge sword like Cloud from Final Fantasy VII? Yes please. And you know what that say about huge swords? Bigger the sword smaller the penis? And while painting this miniature, I'm pretty sure I didn't really see a penis at all!

Yet again, ignore the messy background.

And have a good evening people!!

Returning To The Table!

So after a 6 month break from Blogging, I finally return!

A lot has happened in the last 6Months.
Namely, our FLGS has begun to close down, a lack of stock and word that the owner has financial problems is leading us to find other place to convene!

I myself have finished university this year and have several projects on the go, still with WH Fantasy and more importantly Warmachine and Hordes!
Privateer Press' game has gripped me and with the new edition of 40k which I don't agree with, I have found myself playing WarmaHordes a lot more!

Enough of the trivial things that have been going on, the real reason I've resumed posting is for my good friend Riot from RiotVilleOnFire. He's always hammering at me to continue blogging!

So here I am people, I've finally found my lost password and ready to continue where I left off.

??? Khorne's Favoured Champion
He leads his frenzied warriors, newly reborn as Khorne's champion.
Khorne had promised him more demonic allies and gifts if this warrior can provide him the Talisman. Eager for power, blood, skulls, this warrior marches under a blood red banner, for these upcoming fights will define his future, and provide him a name for which all future combatants will fear.

??? The Skaven's Madness Made Manifest.

MEGC Painting 101: Hormagaunts

As many a gamer has experienced, painting your army can be a tedious and daunting task!
Whether it is the 40k hordes of Space Orks or Tyranid Swarms, to the masses of Skaven Clan Rats or Goblin Fanatics of Warhammer Fantasy, painting handfuls of models can take a lot less time and effort than it may seem. Lano from the Miniature Empire Staff team has set himself the challenge of painting 60 Tyranid Hormagaunts in little time as possible and to a good detail.

Introduction
Hi guys, Lano here from Miniature Empire!  Many people within the gaming club and the store knows me to be very particular when it comes to painting models, and the quality that I like to present on the table top!
So when people hear that my main army is a 8000pt a Tyranid army, they ask me how j have the patience and dedication to paint so many miniatures.
The answer to be frank, is that I don't, whenever I have huge group to do, I take a step back and question whether I am capable of doing it at that present moment.  Along side my tyranids I have other armies from other systems, I firmly believe that to keep the painting "mojo", you have to keep yourself entertained with many different projects!
If I had to paint the same colour scheme again and again, I'd get bored and lose interest. I find that this is a situation many painters find themselves in, and it is very easily avoided!

Now, to the task at hand, these 60 Tyranid Hormagaunts!

Step 1 - Priming and Basecoat - 1hr
Common knowledge between painters is that the Basecoat is a vital foundation for good paint jobs. My basic colour scheme for Tyranids is red and bone coloured chitin, but with the arrival I've decided that a new Variant Strain colour scheme would be used, opting for a more basic look, I've decided pure red would give them a more organic look, and I would then concentrate on the highlighting to bring the model to life.

I've used Army Painter Pure Red spray, two even coats, and 30min to dry.
Army Painter do a vast range of coloured primer cans. Unlike the Games Workshop rubbish, you don't need a base coat of white or black. These cans come ready to spray and can be directly applied to bare plastic!
Finding the right colour can save you ALOT of time.

Step 2 - Washes - 1hr 10min
Nothing fancy here. Games workshop, while their models are horrendously over priced, do a very good selection of paints  and washes. They may not be able to compete with Vajelo but they still have a case. In particular, I am really impressed with their washes range, the colours they provide allow for very easy shading and time efficient!

In the case of all our Hormagaunts, I applied Nuln Oil.

Step 3 - Dry Brushing - 1hr 40min
When it comes to doing batch highlighting, I believe that dry rushing is the most time wise.  Depending on the degree of your dry brushing, you can very easily create a heavy highlight, or a very light one.
In terms of our models, I applied 3 different brushes.
First in Khorne Red, secondly in Evil Sunz Scarlet, then finally in Wild Rider Red!
Three brushes might seem over the top, but using the darker reds first in a heavy brush, the working my way lighter with softer appliances let me highlight quickly!

Step 3 - Chitin - 2hr 15min
Yet again, nothing fancy here, 50/50 Evil Suns Scarlett and Lamian Medium, followed by 50/50 Troll Slayer Orange/Lamian Medium, and finally 50/50 Fire Bright Orange/Lamian Medium.

After a days work, this is as far as I got, hopefully in my next shift at work, I will get these guys finished.
There is not much left to do.

Total time so far: 6hr 05min

The Tale of Four Gamers: Like A Bull in a Jungle Shop (Part 3)

As the two armies sized each other up, both generals gazed upon the marvellous golden pyramid.
The ogres thought of nothing but plunder and riches, the lizards of nothing except protection and duty.
With the cry of a local smaller gecko, both armies began the advance.

Gautam's ogres decided to blitz one side of the temple, where Lano's Lizards decided to split their forces, the Saurus warriors would try to hold the blunt of the attack, while the skinks flank, and the Ripperdactyls advanced through the trees!

After Lizard's first turn of movement, the skinks on the right hand side of the temple make good progress,

...while the Skink Skirmishers with Javelins take refuge upon the temple.

Very quickly, things start to get messy, the Saurus warriors get an Alpha strike on the Irongutz and force them to break!  The Ripperdactyls successfully manage to get a charge against the lonely Firebelly...

To which the Firebelly did no take kindly, and breathed fire all over the Ripperdactyls!  Leaving one behind! Lucky that Lano posed it in such way, he firmly believes it helped him!

Having crashed through the Irongutz, the Saurus warriors over run into the Ogre Bulls and meet them head on!

Where as the fleeing Irongutz are quickly shot down by two units of highly trained skinks.

Needless to say, this battle had been bloody, the Lizardmen held their temple and fended off all the Ogres, with none but the Firebelly escaping!
It was a good battle in the end, with both learning valuable lessons in this new game. One especially, which taught Gautam that magic is a powerful ally as it it is a foe!

The Tale of Four Gamers: Like A Bull in a Jungle Shop (Part 2)

Secondly, here are the Lizardmen from Store worker Lano.
Lano and Gautam put together make for a frightening painting act!  Spurred on by each other's painting skills, they continually try to out do each other!
By both of them joining this new Fantasy campaign, it allowed the two of them to learn a new game and yet again try to best one another on both the table top and paint top!

Now let's take a look at Lano's 750pt Lizardmen Army!

Foreword by Lano
"Having played Warhammer 40k as Tyranids and Warmachine as Legion of Everblight, the gaming club pointed out that my armies have a very organic/scaly theme!  So naturally I went for Lizardmen! I love the models and it was by far the most appealing army for me to start, the amount of painting diversity and colours I am able to use stood out, as I love to paint vivid and energetic models and colours.
My Lizardmen for this campaign have no real background, I haven't really though of any such story to be honest! I like the idea that my Lord Ax-Hotl has been banished from a Temple Cuty and is now wandering the jungle try to redeem himself and providing his might where necessary!
I'm really excited for this campaign, and I'm definitely looking forward for me being able to use a certain skink character that will tie in with this campaign nicely!"
